Description

This expressive Geisha is the second lot that we have secured from Vera Stücker's 2026 harvest – after cupping her 2024 lots and early harvests of 2025 with her on the estate last year, we were immensely impressed with the vast array of complexity and clarity in her coffees.

Vera's specialty coffees are cultivated and grown on the Glenmalure section of Ngila Estate. As part of their washed coffee process, the cherries are sorted by hand, pulped, and fermented in parchment for 12 hours. Ngila has a dedicated washing station, where water-efficient pulping equipment supports their commitment to environmental sustainability. After the brief fermentation, the lot is then washed, and dried on raised beds for 8 to 13 days, largely dependent on weather conditions. The Ngila team prefer using sun-drying techniques to preserve the natural characteristics of their coffees.

Ngila Estate was purchased in 1992 by electrical engineer, Vera, and her husband, Rudolf. After Rudolf's passing in 2021, Vera is now the director of Ngila and runs the estate with the support of her experienced local team, most of whom have been working here for 30 years.

Recognising the importance of sustainable practices, the estate has several initiatives to protect not only the coffee trees, but the surrounding environment. Being located so close to the Ngorongoro Crater, wildlife like elephants, buffalo, leopards, and dik-diks are in abundance on and around the farm. They have maintained an 8-hectare 'corridor' to ensure that local fauna can access natural resources and maintain their migration routes.

Alongside vigorous water management systems and erosion prevention practices, Vera is also a pioneer of biochar production, which provides long-term soil health and carbon sequestration benefits.
