INFO
This lot of Yellow Bourbon coffee has been naturally processed, resulting in a full-bodied cup with low acidity and a fruity, complex flavour.
Located in Brazil's Sul de Minas region, Fazenda Santa Rosa spans 636 hectares, with 290 hectares dedicated to coffee production. Producer Petrônio Otávio Borges de Sousa's primary goal is to produce specialty coffees, focusing on high-quality lots, innovation and deepening social connections.
The mountainous terrain of Sul de Minas contributes to roughly 30% of Brazil's coffee production. While the region hosts some of Brazil's largest coffee estates, more than half of its producers are small to medium-sized farms.
There is uncertainty around whether the Yellow Bourbon variety was developed as a natural mutation of Red Bourbon, or as a cross between Red Bourbon and Yellow Botucatu, a Typica mutation found in São Paulo in 1871. Regardless of its history, Yellow Bourbon is known for its good cup quality and relatively high productivity. It has regained popularity across Brazil after initially falling out of favour in the mid-1900s, and renewed research efforts by the Instituto Agronomico (IAC) of São Paulo State in 2005 have highlighted Yellow Bourbon's robust nature and high cup potential.
